Karla Monterrubio-Gomez

Postdoctoral Research Fellow (2023 - present)

Karla has been affiliated to IGC since May 2020 and is also part of the Vallejo's group. Her research focuses on developing efficient predictive models with clinical data for preventive health interventions. Currently, she works on multi-state models for dementia and myocardial infarction for better care outcomes.

Before joining the University of Edinburgh, she did a secondment at Secondmind through the Impact Acceleration Award by Edinburgh Innovations and EPSRC for the project: Towards automated decision-making using scalable non-stationary models.

She pursued a PhD in statistics at the University of Warwick under the supervision of Prof. Mark Girolami, Dr Theo Damoulas, and Dr Sara Wade. Her thesis proposed novel scalable Bayesian algorithms for complex models based on hierarchical, second-order non-stationary Gaussian Processes.

Outside work, Karla practices barre classes, enjoys jigsaw puzzles, and volunteers as a pet foster carer.
